Miss everybody, hope some people are actually checking this to keep up on me.  I don’t want to go crawling back to Facebook.

Grace

I laugh so loud
that pieces of my sandwich land on my sister’s plate.

She is a vegetarian.

She is not amused.

But we go on laughing
at the group of men two tables down,
who drink bottle after bottle of lukewarm Heineken
and talk about better days
as if they could walk into, out of and through them.

Silence overcomes them
and they check the screens of their blackberries
with blank stares and pensive brows.

Each one pining and hoping for some
measure of joy inside some message
in transit.

We eat our sandwiches
and rub the crayons down to their nubs
as if transcribing some holy document for all to see.

But we really just want to make color
feel pertinent amongst the advertisements
that litter the place mats under our plates.

We hold our own awkward silence
as we tear and fold the labels of our soda bottles,
restlessly twirl our hair
and shake our legs.

But it is awkward only for knowing
that there is a depth of immeasurable
sameness.

A depth of knowledge
that our judgment
is often validated.

Even in the moments we feel so forlorn.

But there are times
times like in this small midtown restaurant
that we can look inward and back outward
and chew our nails in sheer unadulterated excitement
we feel as it gently and methodically opens our chests
filling us with admiration.

Knowing,
that even these insecure animals
have something buried so deep in their bones
that they fear
but that we can happily cling to.

I just finished watching Mystery Team, the detective comedy that the DERRICK comedy team made, and fuck me sideways was it hilarious.

Also, Iron Man 2 is not a bad movie.  Don’t listen to the hate, it’s got a great sense of humor and some kickass stuff going on there.

Re-Orient

Outside the walls,
we walk alone.

As a virgin must,
fear slowly seeps
into the falling plaster
